Within the division of Humanities, the sub-Faculty of Italian is active in research in various areas of Italian culture, thought and language.
The Department of History of Art is a leading centre in the study of Renaissance arts and architecture, but also in the field of photography and the visual arts more broadly, as well as the interface between art and science.
The Faculty of History hosts several scholars who work on modern Italy, and hosted Professor D. Mack Smith until his retirement.
The Faculty of Music is active in researching the theory and historiography of Italian Opera, amongst other aspects of Italian music.
